Think Goodfellas, but with women. This was gritty and violent but I couldn’t find a lot of depth here. There’s not enough relationship-building between the female characters and aside from murdering rivals, I had no idea what their illegal mobster activities actually consisted of. I can’t imagine how they intend on adapting this for the big screen.

I don’t know what the hell I just read? Hyper violent and no one has a happy ending but I guess they’re gangsters so I don’t want them to?

Off to see the film tonight!

This was a big bucket of meh for me.

Starting with the story, there was far too much going on in five short issues for anything to be given the time and space it needed to be fully fleshed out. The rest of the book runs just like the first few pages, where two guys are fighting in an alley and along comes Jonny, who gets involved and ends up killing one of the guys. He and survivor go grab a coffee, chat, then Jonny's got a job as an assassin for hire. Bippity Boppity Boom.

And Jonny? Sorry, but the way he's drawn, he looks like he should be a mechanic or something. He doesn't look like rockstar material, and his rise to fame pretty much all occurs offstage. So, story's rushed, and the art is well below average.

Don't know if there will be a volume two or not, but there won't be for me.

An annoying and whiny teen protagonist living in Alaska discovers that his parents have been keeping secrets from him, secrets that lead to violence and bloodshed that is neither dramatic or thrilling. Ho-hum.

I didn't realize until after I had read the book that the author also wrote the underwhelming Vertigo series, The Kitchen.
