The Tournament of Witches is the third book of the Glimnodd Cyle. I didn’t read the first two books yet, but even without them I did enjoy this one. A really fast paced, easy read, that can be finished in one sit. Everyone want the magic cloak, and as a new goal Amlina became the cloak keeper. Can she remain in this position or lose it all?

It’s been a long time since I read a ghost story that captivated me from the start, but this book had it all: ghosts, magic, and a snarky main character. When Abby starts to have visions, she has the feeling the bayou by her granma’s place is important. Seizing on opportunity, she goes to visit and finds out that she’s right. Something is weird in the small town, something linked to the bayou and Abby is the key to fixing it all.

I loved just about every aspect of this book. The characters were three-dimensional, the setting was nicely described, and the story was written in a way that it had no dull moments. I will definitely continue reading the series to see what other adventures are in store for Abby.

Review of Mazes of Magic
By: Jack Massa

The excellent knowledge of Greek and Egyptian mythology in this fascinating and descriptive novel is a tremendous asset for this tale.
Korax, is attacked and killed by his classmates. His mother, who is a witch, saves him from death at the River Styx. When he awakens, he finds himself a slave of a holy and magical Egyptian high priest. He always longs to return to his home and family. But instead, he is forced to become a scribe and magical pawn for the high priest for more than a year. While training to be able to read, write and speak in both Greek and Egyptian languages, he also learns hieroglyphics – the old language.
His mother performed many magical rituals and he realizes that he has a magical gift as well. This speeds up his learning as a scribe and his talents become very powerful.

Abby keeps seeing strange apparitions, but could they be real? A good story with some great characters and a mystery. I would recommend it.
