Great insights into dating Gandharan sculpture, with information and details I haven't found in other resources (or at least the authors of which haven't wanted to share with readers...and potential forgerers, perhaps). Wonderful variety of images, each of which is individually discussed, although the photographs are often very poor due to the age of the original edition (1960)--say what you like, digital photography has radically improved the resources and tools available to today's art historian. Unfortunately, some of the original locations of items shown are now moved (or lost), but I would highly recommend this book to anyone trying to understand the early evolution of Buddhist iconography and needs to understand the early Greco/Hellenistic and Parthian influences.… (plus d'informations)
