Simply amazing, wonderfully presented. Huge. I'll keep an eye out for 36 views of Rainier.
Fantastic edition from Taschen. This new TASCHEN XXL edition revives the series with due scale and splendor. Sourced from the only-known set of a near-complete run of the first edition of the series, this legendary publication is reproduced in optimum quality, bound in the Japanese tradition and with uncut paper. A perfect companion piece to TASCHENs One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, it is at once a visual delight and a major artifact from the bygone era of Imperial Japan.
Short text but helpful, provided a bit more information about the printmakers and their work. But the wonderful thing are the prints. A few were ones that most fans of the medium would have seen before but most were ones I was not familiar with. A good addition to my Japan collection. The author is the head of the Japanese Dept at the Minneapolis Museum of Art. A good deal of the prints are from there or from Honolulu with a few from private collections.
