Courte biographie
Neville Philip Macaulife was born on 29 September 1938, and named after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. He was brought up in Felpham, on the Sussex south coast, and moved with the family to Wimbledon in 1952, where he attended Kingston Technical College, graduating as an electrical engineer. He emigrated to America in 1975, started as a handyman, and became an electrical and general contractor. He has been awarded the only US patent for an airspace propulsion system that exchanges momentum with vacuum fluctuations. In Ventura County, CA he developed a DIY system for turning everyone’s plastic scrap into “Crazy ideas, save-the-world inventions, weird artwork, and other such standard items”.

Critiques

This poem is based on the destruction of the ancient medieval city of Coventry and its historic cathedral in England, by two massive bombing raids on the night of November 14th, 1940. But in larger terms it is intended to address the wanton destruction of any city or settlement at any time or place since the dawn of human history and human folly.
