Me & Patsy Kickin' Up Dust: My Friendship with Patsy… par Loretta Lynn

I love both Patsy and Loretta and reading this now was a bit of a comfort read. It’s a walk down memory lane of their friendship and how Patsy influenced Loretta from before they meet to long after Pasty died. You get a glimpse into the country music scene of the 1960s in particular, including which male stars were sexually abusive and what (some) woman endured and/or tolerated within their marriages.

Way back in the 1980s I read Ellis Nassour’s bio of Patsy and I’m pretty sure I also read A Coal Miner’s Daughter (I read everything my library has on country music back then) — I definitely saw the movie. Some of the material in Me & Patsy rang a bell but it was still enjoyable.… (plus d'informations)

I loved the movie. The book was a little hard to read in 2020. Written in the 1970s the book has some seriously outdated ideas and was a little (a lot) cringe-worthy.

Married at 14 to an older man, 4 children by the age of 18, 8th grade education. And she went on to be one of the most successful artists in country music.

Still love Loretta Lynn, still love the movie, glad to get this book off my TBR pile.

Loved this. This is so sweet, it will make you laugh, cheer and cry. These two strong women paved the way for so many women. This would be a great book club pick.

About 15 chapters too long. Movie definitely better than the book. Read the first half, and then last 2 chapters.
