The mid-1920's administration of Warren G. Harding with its capitalist cronyism, corruption and mendacity harkened back sixty-some years to the equally corrupt, mendacious and cronyist regime of William Marcy "Boss" Tweed in New York's Tammany Hall. Harding's mysterious death got himself and his co-horts off the hook. Tweed died bankrupt and despised in prison. Lynch's study of Tweed and his chicanery is a rallying cry to Progressives of the evils of unrestrained capitalism and the corrupting influence of absolute power.
I have a 1927 first edition of Lynch's book, discovered in a disreputable "antique" store in Bremerton. Hard to find and quite a gem!
