Confusing to read, unlikeable self-pitying narrator, unrealistic and disappointing “cop-out” ending. I feel let down. Strike this author as off my list.

Interesting scenario, slow-moving, but ultimately moving, as the mother reassesses her role as wife and protective mother. I

I just couldn't get into this book. I found the prose slow and overwritten, and the narrator's constant self-pity really grated on my nerves. I also didn't like the style in which the book was written - the letters to the narrator's sister were dull and only served to distance me from the character and the action. I struggled through and finished it, but I was even more disappointed with the ending.

This was a surprise. I bought it on a whim. It did not disappoint.
