- David Lucas was born in Middlesbrough and grew up Hackney, in east London. Shortly after graduating from The Royal College of Art, he illustrated a picture book by Ted Hughes and began writing picture book stories of his own.
He has since written and illustrated more than eighteen books, translated into at least twelve languages.
He lives with his wife and daughter in an old school house, in Leytonstone, London.
