Decent writing about places which seem doomed to be erased from the Los Angeles landscape. These two authors try to describe them and entice as many people as possible visit each location. Some places I've yet to visit. The Crystal Cathedral, now a Roman Catholic Cathedral, was said to use St Paul High School football players for Roman Soldiers during The Glory of Easter. This production which I never saw was one of many reasons the church filed for bankruptcy. A Military Museum in El Monte, the house in West Hollywood where the band X used to live, Cotter's Church Supplies where you can see Catholic items in a retail environment (our church buys wine & hosts from them), Galcos Soda Pop Shop whose owner along with the Highland Park Theatre (not included) still have the same families running them from when I was young, the Integratron where OMD filmed a video, Clifton's downtown cafeteria (now newly remodeled), The LA County Arboretum & Garden where Fantasy Island filmed the opening shot to each episode. The Parade of Davids house still exists in Hancock Park. This book itself is just a curiosity when it might have easily been much more.
Color photos, no index.

I found this book to be very interesting... Even though I was born & raised in L.A. There many things I knew about and many more that I didn't.

There are restaurant reviews of some restaurants that I've been wanting to go to.

There are odd facts:
* The Church @ Rocky Point with the huge cross & very weird fake boulders was once a part of Spahn Ranch
* Van Tassel Airport has been resurrected and turned into a place of meditation w/ singing crystal bowls
* The story behind the mural of Happy Pigs at the Farmer John pork slaughterhouse
* That the drug dealer John Holmes helped to rob got revenge by forcing Holmes to watch his partners in crime be bludgeoned to death
* The true stories of Dead Man's Curves #1 & #2 on Sunset Blvd.
* There is a place you can go to learn how to be a Slave and/or Dominatrix
* The story of the man who owned the Original Dracula cape (which I was photographed in) and other valuable Hollywood movie collectibles
* The story of the underground street in San Pedro
* The two best BBQ eateries in L.A. one Texas style & the other Missouri style

I was enthralled......

A fantastic tome that details some of the wilder, wackier and seedier establishments that might not be otherwise known to the uninitiated tourist unfamiliar with the extensive history of Los Angeles. A humorously written, lavishly produced, and extensively photographed guide for those who wish to go beyond the typical tourism experience and see things that even many locals do not know about.
