- Jarmila Loukotková was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Her father Čestmíra Loukotky was a prominent Czech scholar of language and ethnography. After completing high school, she briefly studied at a private language school and passed the state exam to teach French and German. In 1943, she started working as a clerk at Prague City Hall. Following World War II, she studied aesthetics and French at Charles University, graduating in 1949. During this time, she adapted and translated texts for the theater, contributed short stories to periodicals, and wrote a play for Czechoslovak Radio, Fialinka (1948).
Most of her published work was in the form of novels, including historical novels, thrillers, and psychological novels. She was also the author of books for young people.
