For a book that's more than 400 pages long, there's not much substance; I was able to read the entire thing in two hours. It's a weird combination of genres. Imagine if Robinson Crusoe, A Trio for Lute, Interview with a Vampire and The Da Vinci Code were thrown into a blender. The resulting smoothie would be something like The Silence in Heaven. Begins beautifully but degenerates into a 2nd-rate Anne Rice knockoff. The pacing slows. Way. Down. Characters get all introspective. Etc. I couldn't finish it.

If the author chances to read this, I just want to say the writing at the start, especially the part about the music of the heavens ringing through the universe, is very beautiful. Then the rebel angels falling from heaven to earth shows a lot of promise. Then... nothing happens. I skipped ahead to the part where SPOILER WARNING the angel creates the first vampire by letting a dying human drink his blood. That was cool! Great idea! A very complex, yet beautifully written story. It is quite confusing though. I've read it only once and I'm considering reading it a second time in order to understand the story more fully
