NCLA Review -Remember the “good ole days”? Journey back to the 1960’s and experience small town life through the eyes of pre-teen, Dave Connors. You will be taken back in time and walk the streets with Dave and his friends as they go about their summer-time adventures. Meet the quirky neighbors and laugh until you cry at the antics of Dave and his friends. But be prepared to reminisce about how it used to be when the kids were free to run from house to house and enjoy the elderly neighbors’ company. You’ll also get a glimpse of the goings on behind closed doors in Dave’s home. Will this pleasant, close-knit neighborhood be destroyed if a black family actually buys the house on the block? An enlightening, delightful story! Rating: 4 —PL Navpress 2008, 349p, paper, 9781600061530, $12.99 [FIC]… (plus d'informations)
This book wonderfully portrays a young boy coming to the realization that the important people he has in his life are both more and less than he has always thought they were. One review I read captures it perfectly. "a time in a young boy's life when innocence gives way to awareness...". The story intertwines faith & nostalgia with the realistic details of the way children are with each other and with adults.
