The book explains and gives examples for the main parts of the DOM specification.

The text is written clearly and the examples can well be understood. The selection of material constitutes a balanced view of the significant elements/methods of the DOM.

The problem with the book in my opinion is the somewhat heuristic approach. For example a repeated quote is "To get accurate information ... it's best to ignore the specification and to ask the browser what is available" (e.g., p.84, p.104, p.106).

In my opinion, the irregularities of the different browser implementations are not sufficiently accounted for. Resig's "Secrets of the Javascript Ninja" does a better job at this. The claim in the foreword (that this text does for the DOM what Crockford's "The good parts" did for Javascript) is not maintainable.… (plus d'informations)
