A Nation Challenged : A Visual History of 9/11 and its Aftermath

by Nancy Lee

This book is a breathtaking commemoration of the photo journalism adn reporting that won an unprecedented six Pulitzer Prizes for The New York Times, as well as the George Polk Award for national and foreign reporting. It records the full range of events from the moment of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon to the Anthrax scare, the war in Afghanistan, the quick fall of the Taliban and efforts to build a nation in a war-torn land of hungry people, feuding with the tribals, and a fragile governement. The results, based on the prize winning daily special section of the The Times.

This book is absolutely amazing. It captures the details that some did not get to see. Very informational, a wonderful book for one see see the background on how these brutal attack changed our nation.

Have student make a timeline of events that took place on this particular day. Have them create a journal of events that took place this day.

A New York Times-compiled recap of the events of September 11, 2001, and the events that followed, concluding in the conquest of the Taliban in Afghanistan. An effective and compelling reminder of a horrific time in history, which I will never forget.
