A short followup to Lerner's Assault on the Book, as given in a January 1979 talk at the Grolier Club. Lerner continues his critique of contemporary fine printing, decrying the intrusion of "preciousness" and the selection of "opaque" modern poetry for much fine printing. "We have been bamboozled too long about the new poetry. People defend it in public. Privately nobody enjoys it," he says, calling for more discussion among collectors and printers. "We need their books for the delight of our eyes and our hands. We must ask them also to engage our minds."… (plus d'informations)

A short but very effective essay on book design, using the bibliography of Typophile Chap Books as a case study (and, it should be said, nicely designed in its own right).

A 1978 speech by Lerner at the Double Crown Club in London, in which he highlights some contemporary fine printing and lambastes some other attempts. He calls for more careful selection of material to be printed and laments the "irresponsibility and immaturity" of the printers then at work.
