It's a day in the life of SUPERBABY! She's "demolishing bananas, leaving no trace behind...She flies through the air [on a baby swing]...She builds cities and KNOCKS them down." She plays with an older sibling (who is, in turn, a mountain, a bridge, and a tower) and catches "runaway trains" (spoonfuls of "green slime" at dinner time). Then it's time for "a bubble and a scrub" and back to her "energy pod" to charge up for another big day.

Pencil crayons and digital illustrations combine for a textured, retro look, and the typography keeps things visually interesting as well. There's a 3, 2, 1 countdown at the beginning and end of the book, and toys that are neatly spread out in a pattern on the front endpaper are jumbled into a pile on the back endpaper.

A great book to read to a student who is struggling in a new town and new home. Helps explain that home is wherever they feel loved and wanted in their community.

This poetic book shows scene after scene of what home can be to different people, and shows that home is people as much as place.

"Home is what feels
the same each day
and sometimes
what is new."

Home means different things to everyone. But to one little girl it is the familiarity of objects and ritual. Yet things change, and sometimes home may be something entirely new. Sasaki 's bright illustrations with the shadows of big city life versus the bright sun of the new home emphasize the story quite nicely.
