On the Rocks by Kim Law
Turtle Island series #3. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a standalone. Second chance and friends to lovers troupes.
Ginger Atkinson runs the Turtle Island ferry business. She loves the business of running the ferry and captioning a deep-sea fishing boat. But she’s a little lonely in the relationship department since many of her friends on the island have become couples. Why can’t she find someone that will accept her as she is, fishy smell and all?
Carter Ridley has returned to Turtle Island after a scandal ruins his marriage. He and Ginger used to be friends in there school age year, often watching the sunrise together. They meet up again and agree they want friends with benefits status. Carter can’t give anymore than that. But is it enough for Ginger?

The first thing he tells her when they meet again on the island is how bad she smells of fish. That was too funny. The full story is more drama and angst between his heartbreak, having to check on his sister, writer’s block, and Ginger’s wanting more. Good romance in the end.

Two Turtle Island Doves by Kim Law
Turtle Island series #2.5. Contemporary romance novella. Second chance troupe. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Kelly and Becky Griffin were married at one time but the choice of children or not was cause for the divorce. They are still in love and occasionally get together but they don’t talk in any depth. This Christmas, Becky joins Kelly in Turtle Island where he’s a contestant in a sexy Santa contest. She wants to try one more time at forever.

I didn’t like Kelly from first impressions. He made several comments to himself that were rude and while they may have been true, you just don’t say those things out loud. The narrative goes on to give him more depth and to try to make him “lovable” but for me it was too little, too late. I’m not sure why Becky wanted him back other than physical attraction and maybe a little star stuck.
Spending time together for the contest, reminds them both of when they first fell in love and they finally talk about what broke them up and what they want for the future.

🎧 I listened to this book as an audiobook. The narrator is Ryan Haugen who has a slight occasional lisp. It didn’t bother me and was only a couple times noticed.
Perhaps listening was why I didn’t like Kelly. I heard his comments, that he said under his breath, and just thought “how rude”, even if he spoke with knowledge and past experience.

I’ve read and loved other books by this author and intend to read the next book in this series. I will just write this one off as novella filler.
This does have a happy ending.

Hot Buttered Yum by Kim Law
Turtle Island series #2. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone.
Roni Templeman is the master of ceremonies at Turtle Island’s Yummy Santa contest. The contest is run similar to a TV show where the audience gets to vote for who stays and who goes. Roni is a former concert pianist living on Turtle Island and hiding the pain of loss behind her profession smile and using her large home as an escape.
Lucas Alexander will do anything for the charity that helped him when needed. If that means stripping and dressing as a sexy Santa, and strutting his six pack for votes, he’ll gladly donate his time. He can work remotely during the down time and in the evenings to keep up with his regular job.
Romance and attraction sizzles between Roni and Lucas and as the contest continues and other contestants get eliminated, their casual turns to more. Lucas is ready for a commitment but Roni isn’t sure if she’s ready to love again.

Sexy fun contest days with steamy nights. Lucas wants to help the charity raise money and has fun while playing up the sexy Santa angle. If you’ve ever seen Thunder From Down Under or similar shows, you can probably imagine how the contest on the story goes. Hot!
Sadness is life is inevitable and there are moments in this book that made me cry. Ultimately, the sadness made the future and love all the brighter and happier.
A fantastic romance that I will remember. My favorite by this author to-date.

This is my first time reading this author.
I will definitely read her again. This book was more about relationships within the family. This story makes you realize that perception is everything. Ben and Dani both struggle with their relationships with their own mothers and how it affects their relationships with other people whether family or friends. Not your typical romance, has more drama than romance. Give it 4 Stars overall.
