[Fireflies at Absolute Zero] is a first poetry collection, and although it is uneven in places, there is plenty of wonderful stuff in here which keeps me moving forward with the book. She tackles a couple of broad topics, including her connection to nature and growing up as a Navy brat in backwoods USA, but a majority of the poems evoke deities from a number of ancient religions. There is a sense of incantation to many, and taut, often beautiful imagery. We see the deities not as flat assemblages of "aspects" but as fierce, multi-dimensional beings whose very nature determines our experience of life on this earth.
Here is hoping there will be much more from Laurie over the coming years.… (plus d'informations)
