The quickest read ever, this short story. This just illustrates that I'll read anything and everything.
A cute whodunit, without much twists.

quote:
"About the author
I’ve always loved mystery stories and used to devour Enid Blyton’s Famous Five books when I was young. When I got older I discovered Agatha Christie. Some of her plots can be confusing but her characters are so vivid and full of life, apart from the murdered ones of course. My favourite detective has to be Hercule Poirot as I love the methodical way that he solves mysteries. I’ve wanted to write murder mysteries for a long time - and now I have!"

This quote from the end of the book pretty much sums up the intrigue level of the story, it's much less complex than any of Enid Blyton's Famous Five stories, and if the author found Christie's plots confusing, well, that just underlines the simplicity of this storyline.

Not my cup of tea. It didn't really engage me, and I was disappointed that none of the clues and theories were even necessary for the ending. So what was the point?

A nice little cozy with a good plot line.

Julia Blake owns a cleaning business. She also has the habit of finding dead bodies. Julia promised her Dad she would hire an assistant and stop finding bodies. As if...

On Cain’s first day they visit on of one of her clients, a genealogist Hugo Barnes. Hugo has uncovered a family secret during the course of his work. He tells Julia that the client won’t be happy about the secret he’s discovered but he doesn't tell her who is the client or what is the secret.

Julia and Cain find Hugo’s dead body the next day. When Cain becomes a suspect (because of police prejudice of an ex-con?) she begins her own investigations into Hugo’s death.

A cozy mystery in the style of Agatha Christie. An enjoyable, bright and fast read.
