So football season is over (Nope, I don't watch NFL) and I've begun the long slow countdown until regular season baseball begins. Sure, we have pitchers-catchers around the corner and Grapefruit League soon after (Go Braves!), but these are the sporting doldrums for me so I'm glad I was approved for this title on Netgalley. If I can't watch baseball, I can at least read about it.

If you love baseball, you know how much of a numbers game it is. Every game and every play is making or adding to some kind of sabermetrics tally. This book is about those big, once every now and then moments. Well, they were rare until the last few years anyway. No-no's, perfect games and near misses are some of the most tense and exciting baseball you can watch. Lammers goes through and touches every single one of the nearly 300 no-hitters in MLB history (including the ones knocked out of the record books in 1991) and tells the stories of some of the more interesting ones.

My personal favorite chapters:
- "The 50-Year Curse" chronicling the Met's inability to put together a no-no until poor Santana killed his arm for it. Oh, you Mets...
- "No-Hitter Killers" about some of the batters who have ended a no-hit/perfect game bids multiple times.
- "The Acid Washed No-No" about Dock Ellis's LSD fueled no-hitter. I still can't even. Really, I need to look up footage of this.
- "The Ryan Express" because Nolan Ryan. The End.
- "The Imperfect Call" which still gets me when I see replays. Good on Joyce and Galarraga, but man that one has to still smart for both of them.

Lammers does a great job editing down all this data into bite-sized chucks, alternating from narrative stories to stats centering around a theme. There are also some amazing appendices in the back, and although my edition didn't have it completed, it looks like there is going to be an index as well! I can't overstate how happy nerdy that makes me. Also, this book is up to date as of the end of the 2015 post-season, which is amazing considering how many edits he had to do as MORE no-no's were thrown. Seriously, last year was a little crazy.

I would highly recommend this book if you love baseball. I could see how a layperson might not get all the enjoyment out of it that a fan of the sport would, but I would still recommend it since the editing and pace are quick and keep your interest.
