The Essential Word on the Street par Rob Lacey
Rob creatively re imagines and interprets the Bible in British slang. He matches up a lot of scripture with songs and movies. It took me quite a while to find all the references. I started it three years ago and it was well worth the slow journey.
This translation, or more accurately, loose para-phrase, of the Bible is really good. Not for everyday study, but it was never marketed as such. Does a great job of coming at the Biblical texts we know, devouring them and producing a totally recognizable but awesomely different text. Much more slang-ish than The Message, and I really enjoyed the "freshness" that it brings to some of the most well-studied passages.
Rob's retelling of Matthew, Mark and Luke in one is fast-paced, exciting and eye-opening - I often found a whole new perspective on the Gospel. Also enjoyed the 'news items', the interviews with other characters. Excellent!
