Are all terrorists religious fundamentalists? How can pacifists respond to the devastating violence? These and other challenging questions are the heart of Paull Lacey's text as he explores Quaker responses to both terror and fundamentalism. He acknowledges the evil and devastation caused by terrorist acts, but argues for a more nuanced understanding of what might drive people to kill indiscriminately.
A lifelong Quaker educator looks at what it has been like for Quakers to do education over nearly 350 years, looking at how our predecessors in the community of faith have discerned their calling to educate their own and others' children in the daily challenges of their times and places. In such discernment, principles and practices derived from them get enunciated which at least informally deserve the name "philosophies."
