Using SQLite provides an overview of SQL (which SQLite is based on) and some information about database design. It seemed in some chapters that there was an expectation of familiarity with those topics. There were not enough examples for a beginner. (There also wasn't much explanation about the SQLite command-line program, which was my reason for reading.) The chapters on API bindings -- way over my head -- seemed thorough, but still lacking in quality examples.
