Julie Kramer

Playwright and director Kramer (not to be confused with the mystery writer of the same name) does an excellent job of condensing the emotional impact of Jaffe’s novel about five young women working for a paperback publisher in Manhattan in the 1950s. It’s no small job to turn a 437 page novel into a 56 page script without loss, but thanks to two small plot changes and setting most of the action in the Publishing House, Kramer does it effectively.
