Fascinating but uneven for me and the science info dumps both slowed things down & lost me once too often. Probably a better read for someone more science literate than me.

Of his 3 books, the debut novel while well written was somewhat predictable unlike the other two. The author's grasp of advanced science and ability to percolate momentum are admirable. The gargoyle like creature is crazy as is the sort of Olympic game its created for. Aside from that, its a good read especially for those who like advanced computer VR stuff and a breakneck pace as the story comes to a close.

Typically I tend towards books with unusual characters, a dab of humor and plots that are somewhat unusual. This book was a staff pick at our local library and as soon as I started it I couldn't put it down. Paced like a thriller, it builds momentum continually and the last chapters yield a twist you don't expect. I hadn't read Ted's previous books but I will now. For those who enjoy science fiction minus space travel, human genome experimentation and suspense, you may find yourself out of breath as you get to the last chapters eager to learn how it ends. Highly recommended.

On the back cover Hugh Howey, author of the "Wool" series says, "If Stephen Hawking and Stephen King wrote a novel together, you'd get Flicker Man"; I couldn't agree more. It's brilliant, disturbing and well thought out and has you question the Universe and where we fit in. We don't really learn who the "Flicker Men" are until late in the book, though once we do, its off to the races at a Le Mans pace! Ted's grasp of science is far beyond most which force feeds the reader into learning something new; a good thing at any measure. His ability to catch the reader off guard, ramp up the speed and throw curve balls along the way is the mark of a great storyteller!… (plus d'informations)
