S. F. Kosa

I picked this up as part of the Big Library Read. I don't think it was badly written, but I didn't enjoy it. I also think it should have a list of trigger warnings included. I know the things mentioned won't bother everyone, but I appreciate the warnings. There are things I don't enjoy reading about and this book has quite a few of them. Add to that the fact that I didn't actually like any of the characters and found the ending depressing. It's definitely not a book I would read again. The Quiet Girl by S.F. Kosa is a 2020 Sourcebooks Landmark publication.

This is another book that has languished on my TBR list for a good while. I don’t recall why I was so keen to read it at that time, but now I am scratching my head a little.

I was intrigued at first- Mina, a romance author, goes missing, leaving her new husband baffled- a solid enough set up, but it soon becomes confusing. I struggled to remain invested for a while, but stuck with it, thinking I’d eventually be able to sync everything together- which I did, but it was very slow going, requiring extra attention and I didn’t feel up to working overtime. The story did get very interesting in the last few chapters. Some very nice twists kept me on my toes and engaged more than I had been up to that point.

But the ending was a gut-punch- one that after going the extra mile with this book, lost every ounce of ground it had gained.

I’m afraid I’m an outlier on this one- many of my reading peers loved this one- so be sure to check out the many positive reviews. You may have better luck with it than I did.
