An interesting reading experience; Kobabe is someone whose gender resembles my own in some ways, especially at first glance/to strangers, and the points of overlap and the stronger points of divergence made certain parts of this hit harder and others, conversely, sort of slide off of me. But more than my personal gender-related reading experience, this book didn't feel quite finished; there were many moments that felt like the author uncovered something big and potentially difficult, and instead of exploring it, e left it there and moved on. I didn't need every nuance exhaustively explored on the page, but I want them to feel as if the author has explored them somewhere, and brought that understanding back to the work.
On the other hand, I suspect that part of why conservatives are incredibly panicked about this book is because it is an approachable, easy read that doesn't dive as deeply or messily into the teeming world of gender and sexuality as it could--it's a solid starting point.
