A short story by Wade A. Kimberlin set in the Universe of Electronic Echoes of the Mind. Provides a little more background for Jake and the EEOM story-line. Story is notable only for clarity of writing and fleshing out the back-story.

I picked up this book via BookMooch since I was Mooching another book from the same person and the title caught my eye. Turns out to be just my kind of sci-fi and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing.

I believe this is a first effort for Mr. Kimberlin but it does not have that trying-to-say-everything-all-at-once feel that can be off-putting about many first novels (Heinlein's For Us the Living, Stross's Singularity Sky, to give two examples.).

This is a slim volume and a fairly light and quick read. Only the main character is developed in any particular depth but the other characters are interesting and behave consistent with the history they are given. The action is quick and the dialogue is witty.

Would definitely be interested in reading a sequel - 4 stars.

This is the first book in what is obviously a multi-book series and Mr. Kimberlin does a nice job in his debut effort. His settings and characterization were pretty standard, but I liked the plot twists and was surprised on several occasions by the direction the story was taking. I look forward to the continuation of the story...
