Shawn, Craig, Tony and Petra set out for a fun day of golfing along with Hobart, Petra's bear sized Newfoundland. When a fox steals Tony's ball and Tony chases after him, the four young people suddenly find themselves involved in an unexpected and dangerous adventure.
Tumbling into a quarry the teens hear ATV's and watch horrified as a mother deer and her fawn are chased. The mother deer excapes and the fawn is accidently killed. The teens find a smoldering cigarette and crush it out only to realize a while later that the forest they are in is on fire. The three ATV's scream past them and one of them stops and warns them to run. While trying to escape they come upon Colin, one of the boys on the ATV's. He is trapped under his ATV and his "friends" have left him to suffer whatever fate. Rescued but not trusted by Shawn, Craig, Tony and Petra he must use his knowledge about the area to help them all survive.
Full of adventure that kept the reader on the edge of their seat from beginning to end. I thought this was a wonderful book, full of suspense. This is one I will definitely recommend to others.

This is a second book written by the author of the Chocolate River Rescue, one of the Silver Birch Nominees. Since I really enjoyed that book, I decided to read this one. It features the same characters as Chocolate River Rescue, but this time they're trying to survive a forest fire. While taking a break from the golf course the kids accidentally find a white gypsum cave. While they are examining it, they are almost run down by ATV riders who also run a fawn off a cliff and to its death. Later, they end up rescuing one of the ATV riders, and the kids all hide out from the fire in the cave. Colin, the delinquent who was trying to impress the other ATV riders, ends up being quite a nice kid, and does community service at an animal shelter by the end of the book.… (plus d'informations)

While standing on a bridge in the winter, Craig, Shawn and their friend Tony see a valuable Manga trading card sitting on the ice of the partially frozen river below them. While discussing ownership of said card, the ice they are standing on breaks off underneath them, and suddenly the boys are stranded on the ice floe as it drifts away from the bank and down the river. After a failed rescue attempt by the police, news of the boys distress gets posted over the firefighter radio station where the message is heard by Petra, and her off duty uncle Daryl. A slip prevents Daryl from going with Petra as she sets out to rescue the boys. Just before she and Hobart, a Newfoundland dog, reach the boys, the motor dies. The boys transfer to her rubber raft just in time as the floe melts away. The kids resourcefully find a way to stay alive despite the fact that they are soaking wet, and night is falling quickly. The book is a very fast read, and one that would be enjoyed by anyone who has messed around on a raft or played on an ice floe when they were told not to. Although it was an enjoyable read, I was surprised to learn that it is a Silver Birch nominee for the 2008-2009 season.… (plus d'informations)
