Part memoir, part cancer survival story, this moving book recounts the adventures and personal struggles of former White House chief-of-staff Hamilton Jordan.

Jordan's dealings with shadowy figures in the Mideast makes him seem less than reliable himself. It was a difficult time, and Jordan seems to be honest about what happened. An important contribution to details of the Carter presidency.

1839 Crisis: The Last Year of the Carter Presidency, by Hamilton Jordan (read 24 Mar 1984) This is Carter aide Jordan's account of his time from Nov. 4, 1979, when Iran seized the hostages, till the hostages came home in January of 1981. It was interesting but all rather recent. I believe Jimmy Carter did a good job as president, and so does Ham.
