Book 4 of A Country Road Series
Landon Montgomery is the lone bachelor in his circle of friends. His best friend and roommate even found the love of his life. Now, Landon is stuck with blind dates that his mother is arranging. How did his life get so pathetic? He is ready to find that certain special someone. Too bad that every blind date ends with zero sparks. His father just handed him half of the HVAC business--a business he really doesn't want nor knows how to properly run. He would much rather be working in his workshop creating furniture and other creative pieces out of wood. His woodworking side business is beginning to pick up to the point that he has to at least hire someone to help him out. Mason, a fourteen year old nephew of Taylor's and the son of the woman Landon has a crush on. From the moment Landon laid eyes on Addy, he knew she was something special. He only spoke to her for a few minutes during Ben and Piper's wedding. She moves to Lexington to be closer to Taylor.

Addison Sinclair has been a single mother for the last four years when her ex-Dan decided he didn't love her anymore. Dan has been extremely hands off when it comes to helping with Mason even when Mason gets in trouble with the law and is suspended from school. Addy decides to move to Lexington where her little brother owns the bar Country Road. She spends her first New Years at his bar mesmerized by the handsome Landon who dances and kisses her at midnight. It is a magical night. Thank God she came to her senses before she was too caught up in the fantasy especially since Landon is so much younger than her. He is a few years younger than her brother! There is no way that she can start a relationship with someone that much younger than her. I mean, it is eight years! Landon makes it really hard to resist him when he's so caring to her son. He fulfills the role of father without a second thought. Is she really ready to start a new family with Landon and Mason? Mason even calls Landon her boyfriend...why can't she catch up to how her two men feel about her and each other?

This adorable rom-com is from my personal reading library. I laughed so hard. I mean who falls for their teen crush whose now a stripper?

Whitney Wheeler has been dreaming about and planning her wedding since her grandmother gave her a wedding scrapbook as a teen. Well, the thing with well laid plans...they never--I mean ever work out. With Whitney, it came in the form of walking into her McMansion that she shared with her fiance, finding his secretary servicing her soon-to-be husband. Instead of discussing the situation, Whitney goes on a road trip with Lucas DeCosta, her high school crush that she reconnected with the previous night at the local strip club...where he was working. Her friends paid him to give her special attention...on stage in front of the entire club. The real problem is the electric current that runs through her veins every time Lucas touches her. Why can't Trenton stop calling and texting me? Do I still love Trenton? Did I ever really love him?

Lucas DeCosta is a medical student who happens to strip and dance to pay for medical school. He also takes other side jobs such as transporting things such as puppies from a dog breeder to the new owners. He asked Whitney to join him for multiple reasons--the largest being that he selfishly wanted to spend more time with the girl he was too chicken shit to ask out in high school. Lucas knows that Whit is going through some stuff during the road trip she tells him about her idiotic fiance. Who would ever cheat on this perfect woman? Whit has changed since high school--she's closed off and reminds him of a Stepford wife. He sees glimpses of his Whit--funny, outgoing girl who isn't afraid of anything. She gives him crap right back. Why did he kiss her after dinner? He ruined the carefree feeling they have been sharing during the road trip. Now, she's gone. Probably went back to the idiot.

Will Whitney take Trenton back or will she take a chance on Lucas?

I have to begin with how much I love every Andrea Johnston novel. I haven't read a mediocre novel from her. I love everyone of them. I will admit this is not one of my favorites (Tequila and Tailgates will always be the top--Ashton is wickedly hilarious. If you haven't read it--Do it!). I love how she intertwines the characters from her previous series with this one. Although, if you haven't read the series, you can still fully understand these characters since they were minor characters in the series. The reader didn't get a lot about Beth during her time at Country Road--although we do know who her hook-up is and why he wanted a long term relationship with her and not Beth. But Mercy tells us her version later in the book too. No one is in the dark about her previous life.

Mercy Elizabeth Warner is still trying to find her place in this world after working for Taylor at Country Road--a bar in Lexington, Kentucky. Beth as she went by in Lexington decided it was time for a change. It had nothing to do with the fact that her casual hook up decided he wanted a long term relationship--with someone else. She heads back to Texas to visit her momma for two weeks before heading for the bright lights of Austin. She grew up in a small town and hates everything about it. She loves everything about big city life. Until her car breaks down a few miles from a small town over two hours from Austin, luck is on her side. Sorda of. Her beloved Gerty can be fixed, but it will take months to get the parts. The luck is meeting Vera, the owner of The Mess Hall, a local diner in Fayhill. Vera insists that Mercy stays with her since Mercy helped Vera out. Vera's love of Margaritas and twinkling vampires bonds the two women.

From the moment Shane Abbott laid eyes on Mercy, he knew that she was something special. Mercy says that Fayhill is only a temporary stop but she's getting to know everyone so much that he wonders if she really will leave when her beloved car is fixed. He prays that she won't. He swoons and romances her to ensure that she doesn't want to leave him or this town. Even his ex breezing back into town isn't deterring him from keeping Mercy close even after her car is fixed.

Is he willing to leave his small town life for the big city? Is Mercy willing to leave her big city dreams for a gorgeous dimpled cowboy? Will they find a way to be together even though she loves the big city and he loves small town life?

Taylor Cain was a golden boy in high school, yet instead of taking the full ride to college he enlists with his best friends--one (Henry Gilbert) he remains friends with throughout their military career. Henry lives through multiple deployments only for tragedy to occur at home. Taylor being the loyal best friend is there for Henry's pregnant wife, Scarlett. The more Taylor is there for Scarlett the more guilty he feels. He feels numerous emotions about his slow burning relationship with Scarlett including guilt.

Scarlett has kept a secret from everyone including their closest friends, Connor, Grant, and Taylor--Henry and her were divorcing. The day of the tragedy, she argued with her husband. Guilt is an overwhelming emotion for the new widow along with what ifs. So many what ifs. She's scared. This precious baby is growing inside her but she's alone. Connor and Grant will be there for her but who would hold her hand in the delivery room? The only person she truly trusts is her husband's best friend. Again guilt keeps her from going after what she truly wants. She shouldn't be thinking about Taylor the way she is. She shouldn't rely on him or trust him as she does. She's tired of everyone looking at her with pity and sympathy in their eyes.

This book was emotional on so many levels. Both characters are mourning and struggling to find their place in the world after such a tragedy. Johnston conveyed the characters to perfection. My heart broke when Scarlett and Taylor's did. I felt everything they did. The perfect opening book for a new series. Loved having a glimpse of Jameson and Ashton!! While Promise Her has a completely different feel than Johnston's Country Road series....it is definitely worth reading.
