This fits perfectly with the CGI program we currently use to teach math that encourages a hands-on, deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. A perfect book to have on a teacher's bookshelf! I definitely recommend it to stretch thinking for yourself and your classroom.

The exercises, actually explorations, centered on polygons and a bit on polyhedra are well thought through and well written. It is a complete unit, with a pre- and post-test.
While I teach high school math, and the students are required to know significantly more, some of the exercises can be modified for my lower students or for special education students.

Instruction is accomplished through inquiry-based units - no spoon feeding here. Activities are hands-on and elegant. The text manages to lift the veil off of mathematics and allow students a peek at its beautiful under-workings, which should excite the already math-inclined student and, at very least, make a pass at grabbing the interest of the otherwise focused.

It approaches the topics from a discovey angle. I believe this enhances understanding. This is aimed at 3rd to 5th grade high-ability learners. I, however, believe most of it could be handled by all students.
I like how it explains the origins of area formulas. This, too often, is left out of most curriculums. I certainly never learned it until I got into college.
I like the simple approach in each exercise. These lessons should be fun.
