Natural Born Exorcist (Nephilim Narratives #1)
by Hadena James
I picked up the audio version from Chirp for a couple of bucks and WOW what a book! I had no idea what I was getting but as soon as it started I knew I wanted the second one in the series!
The book is about a half angel, nephilim, and it's a world of fae, demons, werewolves, vamps, etc. They all live in harmony with humans except demons but some nutty humans still get mad and protest for demon rights.
Our gal of the story is an Exorcist. Her father is the angel Raphael. (Other angels make appearances too.) Our nephilim meets a young boy who has great power but he doesn't know his worth and from a poor family. He helps with a big nest of demons.
Lots of action, great plot, fun characters, love the fantasy, unique, full of love despite the demons!
Wonderful narration!
When the other books come to chirp on sale, I am grabbing them up!

Brenna Strachan started out as a NaNoWriMo dare. It was decided that I should try to write outside my comfort zone (mystery/thriller) and create something different. And different it is...

Having a history degree gave me a unique position for creating the characters in this book. I went back to the roots of history and mythology to create most of them based on what they "used" to be, not what they are perceived to be now.

It originally started out as a single novel, but the plot grew so complex and the word count kept growing by leaps and bounds, that I eventually took the idea and broke it up. This created the Strachan series.

Personally, Dark Cotillion was very easy to write. As the series has evolved, they have slowly become harder because the plot has become so complex.

And yes, my intention with Brenna was to create one very unhappy Demon. :-D

My inspiration for the "Cain Characters" came in 1997. I was reading a book that detailed a special Marshal unit that was created and dissolved in the space of two years to deal with the sudden rise of serial killers in the late 1960's. The theory behind the unit was that US Marshals already chased fugitives, why not have them chase down unknown fugitives? The book ended with the author stating that unit was "a dismal failure."

After reading the book, I consider the idea that maybe what they needed was not "better" Marshals, but "crazier" Marshals. And so started the characters.

I knew that I needed at least one female, I love a good, strong female character. During the first novel, Aislinn was just smart without a personality disorder. It didn't work for me, she needed to be as damaged as the people she was chasing, if not more so. I bought about a million books on personality disorders which lead to Aislinn becoming a sociopath.

Another year of development and the cast was created from Lucas to Alejandro to a character that will show up later in the series.

"Tortured Dreams" is actually the 15th novel I have written with this cast. They have finally evolved into what I want them to be, so it is the first to be published. My friends have asked if I will publish any of the earlier Cain novels and the answer is "no." They have evolved beyond what they were and each novel will be "new" for them.

I rated it because they are my favorite cast of characters to work with.
