A useful book with a misleading title. The book purports to give English local, folk and dialect names of birds, while supposedly excluding Welsh and Gaelic bird names on the grounds that they had been adequetely covered in D. A. Bannerman, The birds of the British isles, vol. xii (1963). But it's a bit inconsistent, with a quick flick through catching Welsh, Cornish, Irish and Gaelic names listed as English dialect names under buzzard (no. 41: barcud, barcutan), carrion crow (44: bran), cuckoo (64: gog), puffin (213: pal), raven (217: fiach, marburan) and rook (242: bran) at the very least.… (plus d'informations)
