Critiques

This book has one fundamental flaw that frustrated me throughout the book.
There is something time-critical pushing the plot to a very fast pace but the mc and her ghost are constantly bickering which actively stops them from working towards their goal.
Even more frustrating is that at times where they actually would have time to bicker, while riding to some destination or another, which happens constantly, we get one-sentence fast forwards.
I get that this is supposed to have humorous value of sorts but "Haha, this terrible thing is going to happen if we don't manage to do our thing in time but we are bickering over trivialities instead, haha, so funny" just doesn't compute especially because the story tries hard to make us genuinely care about it at the same time.
Cheap plot conveniences pile up high very quickly to construct a perfect storm of funny mishaps.
The book goes way too far with its intentionally awkward and uncomfortable situations while trying to be entertaining. This kind of humour stops being funny and starts to be uncomfortable and embarrassing pretty fast for me personally.

All of this robs any believability into the serious parts of the story and makes it seem much more like the author is trying way too hard to be constantly funny but it just makes me cringe instead.

This is really sad because I really enjoyed the humour in the first book. That is not to say there weren't any entertaining jokes in this one but it's all overshadowed by trying too hard.

I rarely see books with such entertaining humour written by a woman which makes it even more tragic. (I don't intend to push some prejudice here. That just has been my experience so far.)

Each book gets better

Each book gets better as the characters build and grow and you get to know them better. I love it. I need more books ASAP!!

Microphones and Murder is the first book in the new Podcasting Sisters mystery series. Liv Olsen quits her job with a popular podcast to strike out on her own. Her sister, Camry, joins her. The two sisters are going to start off their own true crime podcast, Missing or Murdered, by investigating a 10-year old missing persons case. Amelia Clark disappeared after an embarrassing and bizarre video of her went viral on YouTube. Police found the 23-year old woman's car stuffed with her belongings....but Amelia was never seen again. What happened to Amelia Clark? Is she missing.....or murdered??

This is a very promising start to a new series. I like the characters, especially Aunt Hazel. The mystery moved along at a good pace, with plenty of sleuthing and suspense. I like the background theme of podcasting...I'm a podcast addict so knew I had to read this book! Glad I did! Enjoyable story! I look forward to the next book!

**I voluntarily read a review copy of this book from Henery Press. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**

Making a Medium by Erin Huss is an entertaining take of a sheltered gal in her 20's how has been over protected her whole life. She is socially awkward and she goes out to get a job but gets hit by a car. She sees a ghost and he hounds her to help him find his killer. He died at the age of 93 but he insisted he was murdered. The book has lots of craziness in it and surprises. Very enjoyable!
