Heather Hunt and Kennedy Warne have teamed up again to produce a beautiful book that highlights the threats to nesting kiwi and their eggs. The mother kiwi has laid an egg and it is up to father kiwi to protect it. The kiwi manages to frighten off a cat and a dog but it is a trap set by a man that defeats the kiwi's greatest enemy - the stoat. The story ends happily with the arrival of an incredibly cute kiwi chick.
Kennedy Warne's story is a simple one that even young children will understand and it is beautifully brought to life by Heather Hunt's pictures. These appear to be mixed media and incorporate digital 'scribbling' which adds texture and motion to the pictures. The 'scratchy' kiwi Heather gave us in 'Kiwi: The Real Story' has become more realistic and has developed plenty of personality. This is a kiwi that children will care about and want to protect. Recommended reading for all Kiwi kids.… (plus d'informations)

This was another good story in "The Gift Series". I will say that I liked book one, "Gifts of Life", slightly better then this second story, but both were very good. Although you could easily read this as a stand alone, you will meet people from book one in this story. It was a story as the title says, of hope. A hope for a second chance at a love someone thought was gone for good.

Daniel Mason is a rising piano player who by a freak fishing accident injures his hand and needs physical therapy to hopefully regain usage in his fingers and be able to continue in his love of what he does. He finds himself seeking the help of Julia Grant who is good at what she does in the physical therapy field. The "problem" is that he left Julia years ago to go after his dream, Julia has since married, had a child and lost her husband. Can they both rebuild the relationship they once had?

I liked the dynamics of Daniel slowly working his way into the hearts and lives of the Grant family. Abigail, Julia's daughter, was a little girl with the ability to keep up with the best of the adults and I enjoyed getting to know her and her antics. Julia is harboring a secret though that she will need to eventually share with Daniel, but it will be hard for her to open up and begin to trust him again.

These seem like very real people, with very real problems and I liked the way the author brought the gospel message into her story line and how it will eventually change hearts and give people that "gift of hope".

Natalie Mercer is a flight nurse married to Donovan a trauma surgeon. She thought life was going good for her - she liked her job, she was in love with her husband and about to tell him the news that she was expecting his baby. That all changed in a tragic moment in time that will take you by surprise. Fast forward. . . . Natalie is now working as a flight nurse for Mountain EMS and learning to live independently on her own, pregnant and without a husband. The pilot of the EMS is Jake Adams, who doesn't exactly hit if off with Natalie, but they will soon become very close friends, and watching the romance build will capture your heart and win you over.

I loved how the author captured your attention right off and how quickly you got to know Natalie, Jake and his adorable nieces, and the folks at the EMS. These were delightful people who captured my heart. I adored how Jake took Natalie under his wing and become her birthing coach and how good these two were together. Although there is sorrow in this story, there is joy that comes forth that makes you feel good about having sat down and gotten to know these people in the "Gifts of Life".

This is book one in "The Gift Series" and I will begin book two next, "Gifts of Hope". Be prepared for trauma, but be encouraged by the tender love that develops between two wonderful people. Enjoy!

Natalie Mercer just found out she's pregnant. Before she can share the news with her husband, Donovan, he delivers some devastating news. In the next instant Donovan is gunned down by a drive-by shooter. Hoping to start a new life after all that had happened she accepts a new position as a flight nurse for a rescue service in the Georgia Mountains. That's where she meets up with Jake Adams. A handsome ex-baseball player, now rescue helicopter pilot, who has issues of his own he's dealing with. Although their first meeting was a disaster, the more they work together the more they realize the strong feelings that are developing between them. Will they be able to let go of the past in order to forge a future together?

Gifts of Life was a story I could not put down! From the very beginning this author grabs you and doesn't let you go until the last page. I loved all the delightful, real-life characters and enjoyed all their interaction. You feel like you're a part of the life-flight rescue team and get some great insight into what their jobs really involve. I totally enjoyed the relationship between Jake and Natalie. They played off of each other very well and I found their situations and how they dealt with things to be very realistic. I have to say, Jake is a swoon-worthy hero! I liked that he was protective of his own! Natalie had such an inner strength for all that she had been through. There is a subtle message of faith running through the story which I always appreciate. Though there is a lot of emotion tied to this story, there is also lots of humorous banter between the members of the rescue team. To me that really added an extra spark! Heather Hunt is a new author to me but I really enjoyed her writing style. If you like a relationship driven story that keeps you turning pages, then try Gifts of Life. It's one I would read again. I am now looking forward to reading Gifts of Hope.
