That was the night that a helluva lot of things happened, including Flap's awful fight with the bulldozer. There was this terrible racket from someplace way off that wouldn't stop. And we had a lot of booze at The Place. And little Loueena was real sick. And Flapping Eagle finally got mad and busted Mr. Storekeep in the nose and knocked him ass-over-teakettle out the window. The window was shut at the time. When he realized he hadn't been too polite, Flap opened the window, which seemed a little unnecessary,.and he kindly helped Mr. Storekeep back inside.… (plus d'informations)

The book actually got a number good reviews, including one from the New York Times. But so much hell was raised over the film -- despite a heavyweight cast that included Anthony Quinn, Shelley Winters and director Carol Reed, along with a theme song written by Marvin Hamlisch and performed by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition -- that the studio changed the name TWICE, first to "Flapping Eagle" and then to "Flap." Wow! I could not put this book down! Thirteen cowboys are joined by eighteen cossacks as they set out to cross Siberia to deliver 500 head of longhorn cattle. Reluctant companions, they face adventure after blood-curdling adventure on their months long journey. Their two leaders embody the cowboy code and the cossack code, different in many ways, yet based on courage, intellect, insight, and above all honor. The narrator is a young man likely to be a leader in his own right someday. This page-turner is highly reminiscent of "Lonesome Dove", although with next to no romance. If you love adventure, edge of your seat drama, and poignant relationships, this is the perfect book for you. I loved it.…
