I grabbed this book on sale, thinking the premise sounded interesting and hoping for the best. Sadly, I'm giving it 2 stars because it just didn't capture my attention the way I hoped it would. It was strangely written at times, using odd phrasing and jumping around a lot. It was also a bit difficult for me to connect with a 13 year old boy and girl. Sometimes I forgot their age and would be reminded of it when they suddenly suggested that someone get an adult.

I do really have to give credit to the book designer though, because the design of the outside of the book is quite unique.

It's not a terrible book but I'm not inspired to pick up the sequel.

This is not a genre I particularly enjoy, but I found the premise of 'Spiders' interesting, and am glad I took a chance. Hoyle creates a word which is both recognisably realistic, and disturbingly different.

The protagonists are loyal, intelligent and courageous, with lots for younger readers to admire and discuss.

I wondered if the book might have been more aimed at boys, but I think both genders would enjoy it.
