Make me a map of the Valley; the Civil War journal… par Jedediah Hotchkiss
I found this to be quite an unusual book, but if you are interested in cartography in the nineteenth century, very interesting indeed. Hotchkiss wasn't a mapping professional at the start of the war, but he was one of the principal CSA map-makers by the end of it. His work was exacting, and some of his improvisations drew professional respect in the following years. His opinions and observations of the war in Virginia are also useful for local colour.
