This should be mandatory reading (despite the fact that i despise the term mandatory and our state run school system). At a minimum, it ought to be read by anyone considering joining the military. Phenomenal presentation of the farce that was our "Fool's Errand" in Afghanistan for so many years. Having followed Scott for some time now, I'm a bit ashamed to say it took me this long to read it, but I'm glad i finally got around to it. Highly recommend.

Whenever people raise Afghanistan as the “good war” vs Iraq, I’d tend to answer “better than completely bad is still not necessarily good”. Afghanistan involvement after the initial anti-AQ activities of q4 2001 was also bad.

This book does a great job of presenting the case that Afghanistan was always a bad thing to get involved with, but more importantly, that escalating and prolonging it is also counter to US interests (and common sense).
