The manga finally reaches the emotional and action climax of the original novel and zips through it in the first third. I wish it lasted longer, but the back of the manga begins an extended denouement that continues in the next and final volume.

Haru has put as good a spin as she possibly could on her life as a sex worker in a fantasy world overflowing with sexism and misogyny. She's made friends, she has aspects of her job she enjoys, she has goals she works toward. It's far from ideal, but she's found a groove and is willing to just get along with what she has.

But in this manga adaptation of the penultimate chapter of the original novel, she finds that despite her strong mental armor the cruel men of this world can still hurt her . . .

I've read the novel, so I knew what was coming, and still it hurts -- even more than the first time.

But I also know what comes next . . . and I now have the expectation that the finale is also going to hit harder the second time around.

Not bad, but not good either. Themes around women's rights and misogynistic society are brought up, but not really ever challenged. There are a few turns that are interesting that have no foreshadowing and the follow up to those turns leaves a lot to be desired. Its definitely a different flavor of light novel from the run of the mill isekais and that is appreciated, though more time could have been spent polishing it up to be more coherent and fleshed out.

These middle chapters from the novel are the same mix of sexual assault and misogyny leavened with Haru's positive attitude and one of her happiest nights in the medieval fantasy world to which she has been transported.

But having read the novel, I know her darkest days are coming . . .
