I liked the slow reveal of this story. We know something bad has happened to the town but don't understand what it is yet. (Reminds me of The Bird Box in that way.) The MC who is elderly is the only one that is allowed in the quarantined area. He returns to his home which is in this area, again and again. He is visiting his dead parents. They died in bed the night the bad thing happened when he was a young man. There they lay over the decades. The full story is revealed through time jumps over three generations.… (plus d'informations)
