Very interesting novel about two sisters jessie and Kay who move into their grandmother's house after the death of their parents. Still grieving, they discover a hidden book called The History of Mischief under the floorboards and the stories in the book take them away from the sadness in their lives and into ancient China and Greece, Ethiopia and Victorian England. There is fantasy and a type of magic called Mischief that is wrought to change and shape the world's history. The younger sister Jessie is completely taken by the book and wants to know what this has to do with her grandmother, her parents and indeed herself. She endeavours to investigate and unlock the secrets behind the stories but what she finds might shock her.
Excellent, well-written novel with almost a "Life of Pi" twist at the end that I won't spoil her. (Suffice to say I DID NOT see it coming and yet, the ending was much more satisfying than LOP!)
