I loved the illustrations but in the end this was quite a forgettable read.

Flora is 40, recently divorced, and feeling lonely so her friend encourages her to try online dating. She has a few dates but nothing really seems to stick.

Sure I can understand the loneliness but what I don’t quite get is why her friends seem to enjoy bringing each other down. How can they be friends like that? They seem quite shallow too.

I did find her friendship with her elderly neighbor quite sweet.

But ultimately I didn’t like the way it all ended. And so this was quite a disappointing read.… (plus d'informations)

This book is populated by catty women who are supposedly friends but seem only to want to be better than one another. The art is fine, but nothing groundbreaking, and I can't say I liked any of the characters, save the man the main character ends up with. We only see him for a few pages, so perhaps that's why?

I'm not sure if this was better in the original French or if I'm supposed to enjoy reading about women who make fun of each other for having botox, for not having botox, for being older, for being younger, for wanting to date, for wanting to be alone... There's even a young woman visiting who is portrayed as "dangerous" because she's attractive and the older women are threatened by her.

The whole book is proof that women can and do write misogynistic things, intentionally or not.
