The third and last book of the series, Rouge Swarm is the story of the costly demise of Overmind X, the spin-off xeno hive queen. She ruthlessly pursues technologically advanced weapons an extinct alien race left behind. Ultimately, it’s her vengefulness and hatred of humans that leads to her defeat and death.

The book’s story is a good space opera read. I particularly liked the author’s writing style, M.G. Herron. I found his style similar to that of Evan Currie and Vaughn Heppner, and, being action-packed, it kept me engaged to the point that I didn’t want to stop reading when a glance at the clock mentally screamed that I had to get to sleep if I was to be productive the next day.

I recommend this easy-reading three-book series to every military space opera fan.

Humanity is in a race to secure powerful alien relics from caches located around the galaxy. Insectoid aliens bent on the annihilation of all human colonies are after those same relics as well. Captain Evers from the human defense force gets possessed by the insectoid queen and learns about her relic sezier plans. Using a recently discovered relic, Admiral Kira frees him from the queen's control and assembles a fleet to beet the hive to the relic and protects it. After the fleet is nearly defeated, they capture the new technology. The queen, however, continues to hatch more specialized military insects to help in her quest.

This is the second book in the Relics of the Ancients series. While being a little wordy, it was a good enough read that I went ahead and bought the next book in the trilogy.

This was my first read for this author. Herron writes in style similar to Evan Currie. In this book, the first in the Relics of the Ancients series, he writes about an introverted starfighter pilot engaging in his first deployment. The alien enemy, a swarm of insect-like aliens who bioengineer their spaceships and equipment in a fashion not too dissimilar to Neal Asher, is mysteriously bent on taking over a human-colonized world. After being shot down and crash landing, our introverted pilot fights to survive the alien invader attacks and ultimately discovers what they are after. Returning that knowledge to the human fleet admirald after his rescue, the book suggests the direction of its sequel.

This wasn't a great read but I enjoyed it enough to immediatly access my Kindle's webrowser to order the second book in the trilogy.

Over the past six months, I have been working on writing a book. The process was initially slow going but it has increased in pace due to a program called Scrivner. Scrivner is a wonderful program designed with the writing process in mind. However, rel="nofollow" target="_top">Scrivner is not necessarily the most intuitive program. There are a lot of internal settings that must be adjusted. This is where Matt Herron's book, Scrivener Superpowers: How to Use Cutting-Edge Software to Energize Your Creative Writing Practice, comes into play. In one reading, Herron helped me make sense of Scrivner leading to a published book. Read more… (plus d'informations)
