An extremely compelling, must-read!!!, December 3, 2008

This book is absolutely incredible, and I highly recommend it. It is the story of First Sergeant Daniel Hendrex, who, while deployed in Iraq, befriends a teenage Iraqui boy nicknamed 'Steve-O'. These two people, coming from opposite sides of the world.... by fate, literally saved one another's lives - while saving countless numbers of others.

This extremely compelling read makes the reader understand the daily obstacles our soldiers and their families face every day. At the same time we learn of the struggles in the eyes of an Iraqui teenager who risks everything to do what is right. And finally, there's the message of love and hope that makes everything worth fighting for.

I highly, highly recommend this book.

4246 A Soldier's Promise The Heroic True Story of an American Soldier and an Iraqi Boy, by First Sergeant Daniel Hendrex with Wes Smith (read 17 Dec 2006) This is about an Iraqi boy who helps Americans in 2003 and 2004 and is eventually brought to the US to live I found the denouement poignant as the boy gets to be in America, though not with the author, a career enlisted man living in Colorado. The book shows Iraq becoming more dangerous as time goes by--even though Steve King thinks it is safer than Washington, D.C. I think this is the first book I've read by one telling of his time in Iraq--a place no one is eager to be, even if Bush 43 is eager to have our soldiers there.… (plus d'informations)

A touching story-although some of the story may be stretching the truth a bit (according to soldiers who witnessed the events).
