John F. Hayes (1904–1980)

This is a young adult book (for boys) written in the 60's, (or possibly late '50's.) It is reasonably historically accurate (I live in Toronto, and travel freqently in the Golden Horseshoe and Niagara Frontier areas) and can visualize most of the locations and actions described quite well. The book, told from the perspective of a young British immigrant to Canada, is very fair to the British, Canadians, and Americans. The Indians are barely mentioned, which given their important roles in the War of 1812 is a shame. This book stands up well even many years after publication. Hopefully it will be reprinted for the bi-centenial of the War of 1812 in a few years.… (plus d'informations)
