What a wonderfully designed devotional book this is for children around the pre-teen ages. The pages are thick and every devotional has a full page of colorful paintings of each hero mentioned in this 159-page book. The pages are thick and glossy and well able to be handled by children. The binding is strong and sturdy. The illustrations are eye catching.

Each of the 50 devotionals has a title and a Bible reference where the story may be found. Below that is a Bible verse that emphasizes the theme of that day's story. The devotional itself is only one page long. It is written in simple enough terms that I feel confident a third grade or fourth grade child could easily use the study book on their own. The emphasis on each person is a character trait that the hero depicts. The lesson is followed by a simple, honest prayer and a list of questions to help the child ponder God's truths.

What I love about this book is that the message is exactly what I would want my children to learn about trusting in God, following Biblical heroes, and about life in general. There are clear messages of salvation, growth in character, and development of your emotional being geared especially for the young child who wants to know more than just Bible stories. This book helps a young reader think how to apply the principles talked about. And the reader hears enough of the actual story in the first few paragraphs that they don't have to have prior knowledge of the story before they use this book.

If a child is too young to handle devotionals on their own, this would also make a great read-aloud/picture book for a parent or guardian to do with the child. Both my own children would have loved this book when they were young. I highly recommend the book for your children, for the church library, for gifts for grandchildren and so on.
