Michael Harwood

An idyllic narrative of a hostile hunk of glacial till, out in the middle of the Long Island Sound. Harwood provides a history of the tiny island, the seasonal cycle of the nesting "mackerel gulls", and eloquent musings of conservation. Helen Hays is still out there, conducting tern research for the American Museum of Natural History. A must read for any urban northeasterner, who's feeling a bit crowded.

Very different from what I expected based on the blurb.

Most surprising were the gay sex scenes with BDSM. I thought the book was more about a look into the life of a manservant, so I wasn't expecting quite that much porn. I still enjoyed the book and found it witty and entertaining.
